I made my husband go first! He needed some correction of his distance vision, qualified for Lasik correction, it went well - was able to see better the instant he got up off the laser table.
Not me. My eyes were more difficult. They did not qualify for Lasik correction, but the evil step-mother of lasik: PRK! While my vision did EVENTUALLY reach the 20-20 state - and they do warn you it will take 4 to 6 weeks with PRK - I was legally blind after surgery with no ability to correct my vision - I just had to wait for my eyes to heal.
If you get the PRK you will also NEED the pain medication they prescribe you as a PRK patient, although the pain is more of a discomfort, you will find NOTHING MAKES YOU COMFORTABLE! (Lasik patients don't get any because they don't need any). I got both of my eye done at once the first time, because I was afraid I'd chicken out and not come back if I did them one at a time. Hind-sight tells me I would have been a lot more functional after surgery if I'd done them one at a time. I also got the life-time correction package. I'm kind of pissed, because within the first year BOTH of my eyes had loss of vision. They went back in and corrected 1 of them, and then said, the really don't recommend doing the other one because there is only so many times they can correct your eyes!!!!!
So it is really not a LIFETIME correction. If the correction fails, or you need re-correction, you may not be able to get it fixed, or they may half fix you like they did me. (I'm still "young" according to their standards - under 40- so I need to "save my eyes" for age related loss of vision later). I think I may have waited and kept using my contacts for a few more years had I know that I wouldn't be able to keep fixing my vision, because now I will probably have to go back to that anyway having spent all the money for lasik. But at least I'm pre-paid for when I decide I've gotten old-age vision! Also, never expect to get out of there in less than a couple hours- there is ALWAYS a VERY long wait, but the coffee machine is very cool!
