Gaspers is by far one of best little secrets in the Tampa bay area .It is actually in the heart of Temple Terrace, which is in the boundaries of Tampa. Located in the mist of older strip stores, and fast food restaurants, and the Hillsborough River.
You will be pleasantly surprised as you enter this little gem of a bar. As you walk in you will see a bar stretching almost the full length of the first room you enter. It is a dark and cool atmosphere which instills a feeling of comfort and relaxation. Look to the left as you walk in and you will notice a life size TV, and above the bar there are several smaller TVs lined up, so there are plenty of views by which you can enjoy sports as you fill your belly with all the spirits they have to offer. There are plenty of tables in this room for hanging out with your friends.
The next room you enter (which is in full open view of the larger first room) is the Karaoke room where the KJ has a nice set up, which includes flashing lights, fog, and a great sound system. This is where you can sing your heart out, or watch talented people do it for you. Some more tables are in this room. Also there is juke box, and a dartboard.
Turn right exit, and you will enter a very, very , large patio decorated Margaretville style with another bar, a pool table, an outside stage, and plenty of tables to lounge at. They have outside heaters when it is cold out to keep you warm and cozy, so you can concentrate on having fun.
Now there are four things about Gaspers which makes my wife and I dessert our humble little abode in Webster on the weekends to brave the 50 mile drive (one way!), all the way to Tampa to enjoy our new found favorite hangout.
1- The Karaoke. The KJ, (JR), greets us with a smile every time, and treats us with respect. He is friendly to all his singers, and he dosnât mind playing our own discs, even though he has approximatly 85,000 songs available on computer. A good KJ is essential for those who love to sing karaoke.
2- The people. This crowd is so friendly, and fun to be around. Mostly local working class folks who long for the weekend, and choose Gaspers as their bar of choice. There are three different groups out of these folks. Those who love to sing, those who love to watch the singers, and those who donât care either way, and seem to hang out on the patio and watch the professional singers do their thing on the outside stage
3- The waitresses. Wow! These girls are so sweet. We have met only three so far (Deena, Megan, and Leanne). They know how to treat their guest, with fast service as you sit down, and staying on top of the game by keeping your glass full, and your table clean. They are allowed to sing, dance, and wear casual clothes while working (which is a fantastic management call).
4- The food. Hats off to the cooks and their crew for fast delivery, and great taste. The prices are fair, and the portions are decent.
It is hard to comment on the management or the owners, as we have yet to meet them. But the proof is in the evidence you can see as you visit Gaspers and enjoy the Karaoke, the people, the waitresses, the live entertainment, and the food. Oh yeah! The double Grey Goose and vodkas and the beer.
We will continue to make that 100 mile roundtrip to Gaspersâ¦.the place to be!
Nice neighborhood bar. Buckets of domestic bottles 10 for $5 during the week. Very dark & cool inside. Patio is cute with nautical decorations & walls painted to look like you're under the sea. Pool table outside. Mostly pleasant & helpful bartenders. Haven't tried the food yet. They have karaoke on some nights. Can smoke inside & out. Parking in lot & on side & back of building. Always meet friendly folks there.
