On September 29, 2009, I had my vehicle towed from 4526 4th st. N. I had parked there because I thought it was the parking for Wings Bookstore. I was in the store for less than an hour and a half, only to come back to find my vehicle missing. I called the St. Pete Police Department at 852pm and was told that no report had come in the say vehicle had been towed. They called back shortly after 900pm to say that it had been towed by Apex Towing. It cost me $112 to regain possession of my property and I feel they unjustly towed my vehicle because they were in direct violation of FL Statute 715.07, #5, letter a: "The notice must be prominently placed at each driveway access or curb cut allowing vehicular access to the property, within 5 feet from the public right-of-way line. If there are no curbs or access barriers, the signs must be posted not less than one sign for each 25 feet of lot frontage". I have numerous photos and witnesses that will prove there was no sign at the said entrance.
I feel that the towing company is crooked in their practices and they should be reprimanded. My vehicle was illegally towed in that there was no sign prominently placed at the vehicle entrance I used. In addition, I have since found money missing from the inside of my vehicle: my doors were locked, the only explanation would be that Apex Towing broke into my vehicle after they illegally towed it.
Light needs to be shed on their operations and questions need to be posed regarding the legality of their business.
These folks are right -- these people are are not to be trusted.
My car was towed by A-1 recovery on 7-4-09 at 1 o'clock in the morning.(awaken by a concerned neighbor) I immediately ran out to my car and told the driver that my car could be parked there and he told me it could not. After we argued back and forth, he told me to give him $50 and he would let me have my car back. I refused and informed this man that I was a single mother of three and any money I had was to be used for groceries and bills. He then got into his truck and towed my front wheel drive car from the back and I informed him if he messed up my car, he would definately be paying for it. You should see the drag marks from this happening and 5 days later, they are still visible on the ground. I need not say that my children who are 5,10,and 11 had a lousy fourth of july weekend. (thanks A-1) I ALSO HAD TO MISS WORK on monday because I live in st petersburg and work in largo. When the office to the apartments I live in opened monday morning, I informed the manager that my car was towed and while I was sitting there she called a-1(which she contracted)and told them that this was an erroron their end and they needed to return my car. This was 930 in the morning and after 2 more calls from myself, I finally recieved my vehicle around 3pm that day. No apology from anyone was given and I also got the run around when I requested that I be given paperwork stating when and how long my car was towed and impounded for no reason. Eventually, I got the paperwork and I'm sure they know they have a problem on their hands now. And after reading those 2 other reviews, I think I have this one in the bag. I will be taking these people to court and reporting to the BBB. PLEASE BWARE OF A-1 THEY ARE OUT TO ROB YOU BUT MY ADVICE TO ANYONE IS TO NOT GIVE THEM A DIME, ACTUALLY ITS AGAINST THE LAW FOR THEM TO CHARGE YOU THE $50.(my neighbor and I did our homework) I didnt give them one red cent and they bought me back my car just the way they took it!
