I love heritage village!: I have a personal interest in this museum because the Mcmullen cabin belonged to my ancestors. But besides that, I think this museum is a fantastic way to get your kids interested in their local history. The docents do a great job of making the tours of the various buildings interesting as well as informative. It seems that every time I visit there is something new to see. If you've never been, the museum is a cluster of old buildings from homes to outhouses to a train depot that are all original structures that have been moved to the park. The buildings are filled with authentic vintage equipment and furnishings that, while maybe not exactly how the original owners decorated them, are true to the time period in which they were built. You can tour the buildings by yourself or go on a guided tour with the docents dressed in old-fashioned costumes. They also have a library with genealogy information, photos, yearbooks, newspapers, etc if you are into that sort of research. Civil war re-enactments take place on the grounds periodically but in the summer it does get hot standing out there watching them so wear shorts. It's a facinating way to learn about the history of pinellas county.
