| About: | Covering nearly 5,000 acres, Highlands Hammock State Park is best known for its series of hammocks, which are small hills on which hardwood grows. There's much to see at this park, which opened in the 1930s and is one of Florida's four original state recreation areas. Hardwood forests and nine nature trails offer a great opportunity to spot Florida wildlife, including otters and the occasional bear or panther. Visitors also enjoy camping, guided tours and other activities. Opens everyday at 8a. |
