Being hardcore Naples socialites, we had often considered the eclectic storefront setting of the surreptitiously named "Thai Japanese" that so garishly decorates its walls in blood red. Sushi Thai had long served as the Queen in our culinary courts, and master of our food-driven hearts. However, after a certain taste, no pun intended, for all things new, (Naples population is like 2), we decided to leave the familiar booths and noisy din of 103rd Ave for something closer to the old heart of the old, decrepit, need-assistance-to-live heart of old Naples - Thai Japanese. Upon further inspection (i.e. door), we found "Thai Japanese" to actually be called Siam Thai Cafe. And, WOW, we were impressed! These guys are not just "Some Thai Cafe" (wordplay). The ambience was demure, comforting, and rich in tapestries and colour choice. Our meal started with ice water as sweet as candy from an angel, and coke cola in a glass, the shape of which was the hourglass shape of a goddess, sweating in condensation (from the ice). Appetizers were thick basil rolls resplendent with fresh crabmeat and shrimp, and a surprisingingly light plum sauce. We then moved to the red curry, of which each inch brought us closer to God. The pad thai was an indulgent experience I will dream of again and again until we make the journey to visit Siam Thai again (literally a 4 minute drive in Naples).

All in all, pound for delicious pound, Siam Thai Cafe trumps, crowns, and consequently DETHRONES Sushi Thai, and every other contender for best Thai restaurant in Naples. You not only should visit this place to partake in its culinary delight, you owe it to your mother.

P.S. Nori is a gracious hostess who made us feel warm and welcome and we will definitely visit again, like tomorrow. Actually we already came back and we're writing this review from the restaurant... We were here an hour ago.
