What a Special Little Italian Restaurant. Just what I crave, fresh home made sausage and meatballs. Wedding soup not to be missed. Friendly happy severs, and a bartender who makes a killer Sangria. Two owners, brothers David and Dennis who really made us feel at home. What a great evening. How Sweet it is!
It has to be said. Donato's used to be an amazing hole-in-the-wall Italian restaurant. The atmosphere was beautiful, the food was delicious, and the staff was courteous, even having a nightly "song." Tonight I went there after probably a year. We walked into the entrance....which had a few t-shirts hanging, a couple things of cookies in the cooler, and 2 bins of raw Italian sausage. Yum? Not so much. They had a greenish hue...I should have turned around and walked away...but my mouth was set on their (what used to be) AMAZING Marsala wine sauce. After watching several waitresses zoom by us without a word and 15 minutes standing at the podium to be seated I walked in and asked the closest waitress if there was anyone seating customers. The response was "UHH Let me check if there is a clean table." There were several. After seating us with no menus we sat for another 15 minutes to be acknowledged. Finally we got some drinks...and had to ask for a menu. Another 20 minutes later we were able to place our order. By this time my 2 year old was ready to eat the crayons. They very quickly got his food and our DELICIOUS calamari. Cooked to perfection! I thought Awesome, this wait will be worth it. About 20 minutes after our appetizer we got our meals (Chicken for me, Veal for my hubby, both marsala). Right away I notice the lack of sauce....it was in a puddle in the bottom of the plate. Their marsala used to be THICK and delicious! It was made with pancheta, amazing wine, and whatever else that made that amazing flavor. I figured...maybe it will be good. First bite. Bland, hard, dry chicken...with water/marsala powder. It was horrible. 15 minutes later the waitress showed up and I told her to tell the cook to go back to the old way because this is TERRIBLE! She said Oh...we didn't change anything. Then walked away. She came back another 10 minutes later with boxes and the check and asked if I wanted to box it up...I said sure, my dog might enjoy it! She rolled her eyes and walked away. I tried to speak to the owner (who was on the phone) and he walked away from me. I've got to say it. We won't be back. I am very sad that the amazing restaurant this used to be is no longer there. Do yourself a favor...head to Olive Garden.
My family and I just had a wonderful experience at this local resturant. the food was absolutely the BEST Italian food I have had in years....but there was MUCH more. My children were welcomed and had a place to color, but they were so busy looking at all the clever decor that I never really needed the distraction of the crayons. It reminded us of Disney, we were sitting on the sidewalk of an NY street with balconys and store-fronts, it was really amazing. The servers were nice and the owner came out and sang a song and gave my daughter a rose!It was not just dinner it was a night out!!! Well Done Donato's!!!
