Great food. The fish and chips and the fried shrimp are excellent. The restaurant is small, very casual, and provides quick service. All the food was extremely hot that we had to pause a bit to avoid burning our mouths. Cash only, so be prepared. Definitely worth the trip.
We're from up north and we vacation in the area every winter. The 776 is always a stop for at least one night for us. We have freinds that also vacation in the area at different times and the same holds true for them. Great food at a great price.
Cafe 776, at 138 North Indiana Ave. in Englewood, FL, is located on State Rte 776, aka Indiana Ave. locally, thus the name, in case you were wondering. The place is on the western side of the avenue just north of the intersection with Dearborn Ave.
As noted by other reviewers, the place is small (seating is about fifty, as my guess) and there is a Tiki bar waiting area, so if you are waiting for a table, you can hang out there and watch the traffic.
Food is more the reason to find this restaurant than watching cars on 776. The fried dishes, mostly fish and shellfish, are nicely done and not a bit greasy. Presentation is simple, with many of the fried seafood orders served in plastic baskets. The cole slaw is very good, by my standard, so you may want to be sure to have some.
Hamburgers are king sized and of good qualtity meat. The hamburger platter is nicely presented and enough for most folks to make a meal of.
Parking may be a bit tight when the place is humming and access is easy at street level.
If you like very casual eating environments, a roll of paper towels on the table for those finger food clean-ups, good food at reasonable prices, bottomless soft drinks and nice friendly service, give this place a try. Crdedit cards are not accepted, so bring some cash. You won't need lots of it, of course.
