Manatee School for the Arts is a school that offers a wealth of information and a fantastic environment for kids who wish to excel in the arts. The school offers many programs including: Classical Guitar, Piano, Orchestra, Theatre, Dance, Stagecraft, Fibercraft, Jazz Band, etc. I am a Musician and it was important for me to go to an institution that would help me pursue me love for music while also offering a good academic background. My Music teachers are incredibly talented musicians who work personally with me to help me excel to my furthest abilities.
Don't be fooled by the name. Even though MSA is a school for the arts, the student body is strongly academically involved and you can witness these abilities from the scores that the students achieve on the mandatory standardized tests (FCAT for example). The school environment is very unique and offers a lot of room for creativity and expression from it's students.
It's true that there aren't any sport programs, but honestly WHO CARES. Half of the people in sports programs at other schools do nothing with those abilities, and if you want to go to a school that has these programs, then there are other schools around that will fulfill your needs.
Overall, as a senior at MSA, I believe this is truly a great school and I appreciate my time that I've spent their. However, there is one crippling blow to the school and I have lost my respect for whoever in the administration was responsible. Over the last year many of the best teachers and administrators have "left" (probably pushed away by corruption amongst the administration), and the management of the school and quality of teaching staff is not what it used to be.
