I received a letter from Jeramie Snelling, General Sales Manager of Gettel Toyota last week offering to pay me "100% of the Original Base Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price For Your Vehicle When It Was New!" for my vehicle on trade in.

Very fine print indicated that there was a 'trade value calculation' based on vehicle mileage.

Considering that the car I was trading was in excellent condition and with average mileage - I figured that I could make this deal work. I had done my homework as to what my car's Blue Book value was at the low and high end and what the original MSRP was, then I checked internet pricing for the newer model that I was interest in.

The salesman was quite pleasant and we spent two hours doing the test ride, negotiation, etc. I could have spent more time, but was under time constraints so I left.

I got a call from the salesman today. After talking with his manager - I got a price that equaled the internet price WITHOUT A TRADE IN allowance.

So the 'great letter' (A TRUE COME ON) offering to give me 100% of the MSRP minus mileage --- was, in my opinion, patently false and misleading. They effectively offered me ZERO/ZILCH/NADA for a car that, even the salesman said, was in really clean condition! On the resale market I could sell my vehicle, on my own, for around $10-$12,000.

Since I do like my vehicle and it looks practically new (oh, the new model had essentially no improvements over my older one) and it runs fine, I guess I will just keep it until the wheels fall off.

My rating is based at two stars because I think the salesman was average to good, but the manager's offer was awful (and just plain insulting). I've got to give the salesman credit, he tried to resurrect the deal and negotiations, but I would have nothing to do with it.

    Sigh.

To think that I had recently had an extremely pleasant experience at Gettel's sister dealership about another vehicle that I own.

    What a difference.

Very bad experience. The salesman was ok, but the accounts manager was a complete tool. I've never met anyone who lied as much as this guy. I also didn't appreciate hearing his sob story about how they had lost so much money on the SUV's they had taken in and he just couldn't give us Kelly Blue Book value for our trade in. He offered 50% of the low value for our trade in. I walked out. Avoid Gettel at all costs. I plan on telling everyone I know about how awful their service is.

BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER. GETTEL Did not disclose lease agreement insurance requirements. (DEAL BREAKER) Then when I thought they were going to help me out of a car we had for only 67 days they drew up a contract to sell us a 2005 Kia Mini Van worth (max loan value) of 13,250.00 for a whopping 17,500.00 and called that helping. I WOULD STILL BE STUCK WITH THE LEASE CAR TOO. I HAVE ANOTHER NAME FOR THAT KIND OF HELP.
