The Owner of Dips Ice Cream needs to close his doors and go into another line of work. I will NEVER take my children to such a rude, "could care less" establishment again. We were in Anna Marina visiting my parents and went to Dips for a treat. My mother is 85 and moves slowly. I was walking with her and my 10 year old was holding the door open for us and the owner had a fit it was taking so long for us to get her inside (maybe 30 seconds) Then he had another fit when she asked to try one of the flavors. "you don't know what blackberry tastes like?" (she can't remember the day, let alone a flavor) We got our ice cream and paid a premium for it. It was OK, nothing great. I noticed a sign that said "kids special", one scoop in a cone with one topping - I don't remember the exact price. I inquired as to why we were charged full rate? " Because we didn't ask for it and we got cups - not cones" was his reply - What a jerk. When we finished, we said "thank you" and there was no reply - He just stared at his TV. PLEASE don't allow this man to continue business in a tourist island - If you want Ice Cream go to Two Scoops in the BayView Plaza - Great ice Cream w/o the attitude!!!
I agree with you totally! I too paid an insane amount for mediocre ice cream, and also experienced the douchebaggery of the skeeze who owns the place. Honestly, it should be called "Dicks," not "Dips."
I agree with you. 11.50 for 3 scoops of ice cream. plus, the ice-cream was melty. That's not a business that will last if somebody gives him some competition. We LOVE the island though and will just go elsewhere for our sweet treats! For instance, we went to Rudy's and had the absolute best breakfast-- it was heaven! Also, we got fresh fish at the Island Market and it was awesome! We have met the nicest people...just not at that Dips.
We just got back from Anna Maria Island. Treated the family to ice cream at Dips. I have gotta tell you that the owner was the least friendly person we found on the entire island. We visited him twice and paid the high price for his ice cream and didn't even receive a "thank you" or anything. We tried the second time because he could have an off night during our first visit. He was more interested in what was on the TV than who was handing him money. He is also teaching his employees to do the same. I noticed this on both visits. He needs to either get a personality or get out of the business. This leave a lasting effect and we will never visit his establishment again.
carl, we locals know about him and he has been this way for years and is still in business. consider him a quirkey eccentric islander and dont let him spoil another trip for you. another ice cream shop located across from city pier. enjoy and come back again
We live on Anna Maria and walk down for ice cream usually once a week after dinner. The owner is wonderful to our 5 year old. Our son loves to go there. The ice cream is great as well!
i know they are so nice(: and i met a guy named justin that works there and he is so amazing theres a long storie behind it, i wished i lived down there. lol
