At the end of May I took my van to AAMCO because it wouldn't start. They said they would diagnose it for free and the towing would be free if they fixed the problem they diagnosed. Three weeks later they called me back and said my van was running and that it was some corrosion build up on something. I went to pick it up and they charged me for the towing because they said free towing was only for "major repairs". Two days later my van wouldn't start. Then I was telling a mechanic friend of mine about the problem, he offered to look at it. It took him less than 10 minutes to diagnose and fix the problem, said it was a common problem with those vans and it would be about $10.00 to replace the part. It was actually about $7.50 for the part. In my opinion the people at AAMCO are the reason why people think mechanics just rip you off and mess stuff up on your car or simply don't do anything so you'll have to come back. If you want to get ripped off by all means give them a call.

being gouged: IN NOVEMBER I TOOK MY CAR TO THIS AAMCO TO HAVE MY TRANNY SERIVCED. WHEN THE TRANNY OUT THE OWNER CALLED AND SAID THAT I NEEDED A REAR SEAL IN THE MOTOR AND HE WANTED TO "SAVE ME MONEY" BY REPLACING NOW THAT THE TRANNY WAS OUT OF THE CAR. HE SAID THAT WOULD COST $85.00 THE PART PLUS ONE HALF HOUR LABOR NOT COUNTINGTAX.I CALLED THE AUTO PARTS STORE AND WAS QUOTED A PRICE OF $9.44 FOR THE PART [SEAL]. I TOLD HIM IT WAS TOO MUCH. $10.00 FOR THE PART AND $40.00 FOR LABOR [ONE HALF OF $80.00 AN HOUR] SHOULD HAVE BEEN AROUND $45.00-$50.00.THIS IS ON TOP OF THE OVER $700.00 I WAS PAYING IN THE FIRST PLACE. I THINK THE WORKERS DID A GREAT JOB ON THE REPAIRS. I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM HERE IF YOU DON"T WANT GOUGED BY A GREEDY OWNER.
