I live very close to this publix and find it much more convienient than the other one off Sumter/41. It is very easy to get in and out of the parking lot. I can find what I need and get in/out within 5 minutes, where as a trip to walmart takes 1/2 hour for the same small thing. I find everyone there to be kind and smiling and always get an offer to have my groceries brought out. I pay a little more for fast, friendly, and more importantly CLEAN service, but in the long run I don't end up with things I didn't need from walmart. So I actually save money.
While Publix in general tends to be a good grocery store. At least better than the competition here in Florida. This one has always left a bad taste in my mouth. The store is always very busy. While being crowded is hardly Publix's fault the store is not designed to handle a moderate crowd (true of most Publix) but also this store in particular doesn't seem to expect the amount of people that come through the doors each day and plan's very poorly for this. Checkout lines tend to be much longer than they should and stocking is done at the worst possible times. Why some of the many many people that are stocking jump on a register is foolish to me. Both my wife and I have walked out many times because the lines are beyond acceptable. In fact we tend to avoid this Publix as a whole because we have had to walk out our wait so many times. Believe it or not the wal mart in north port doesn't seem to have these problems. However the most disturbing thing about this store is that after sending an email to Publix corporate about poor staffing on a known busy weekend. (2 checkout lanes open on a weekend before a major holiday is unacceptable at 11am) After sending an email 2 managers came to my house like the Italian mafia. To make sure I was ok. This in my opinion was uncalled for. The managers said this was Publix policy. However I have a big problem when I send an email saying they need to have more checkout lanes open and then that store sends 2 employees to my house. How did that help the situation at all? The understaffed store is now without 2 managers that could have jumped on a register, this is complete backwards thinking to me. I would like to tell the Publix corporation that this practice is unacceptable but I fear that the ceo of Publix will chopper into my front yard and make sure I'm ok
I've always experienced great customer care at this newer Publix store. They take anything back that you want to return with no question. The young workers from the local high school are a pleasant, upbeat, and helpful. There are hardly ever lines, they help you out to your car with your groceries, and the store is clean and well stocked with nice produce and even fresh sushi. (the sushi guy even made some fresh for me when he saw I was pregnant and was concerned that I get the freshes vegatable sushi available). The checkout clerks remember my face, and some even my name. I'm willing to avoid Walmart and pay a little extra for quality food and service here. I'm also impressed in general with Publix - how they donate to local schools and support programs like the Children's Museum in St. Petersburg.
