Never Again!!!!! We had a party of 15 WITH A RESERVATION on Sunday evening, November 21, 2009. We waited for over an hour and a half for our meals from the time we ordered our food!!! Our sides (rice/potatoes) came 20 min. after the meal!!!!! We turned them away as the meals had already been eaten!

I was charged for a full peppercorn filet and I had ordered from the smaller portion menu. Others at our table heard me order it. I excused myself and went out and asked for the manager (no one ever introduced themselves - wait staff). It turned out she was one of the wait staff!!! I asked her how she could serve me a full peppercorn filet when I had asked for the smaller portion one, and how would I know the difference, being I'd never eaten there prior. She asked me what shape plate my meal was served on, round or square? (Sorry, but I did not bother to check that part out. I had no idea there would be a test!!!!) She claimed she didn't hear me say that! I had even pointed to it on the menu!!!!! I am not a happy camper!!!!!!!! She said she could/would take 10% off the bill. Big deal! That's not the idea as far as I am concerned. It is a matter of principle! SHE made the mistake on my order. Because she served me what I thought I had ordered and then I'm told it was the regular portion, it becomes my fault. She copped an attitude and got on her high horse and proceeded to tell me that they had no idea as to what 15 of us were going to order and that was why it took so long for us to get our dinners! PLUS, she said they have a very small grill. Well, the size of the grill and their not knowing what we were going to order is the most ridiculous excuse/reason we have ever heard. That is Van Der Valk's problem. They shouldn't be in business if they can't accommodate guests when they order! I tell you none of us (think of the business you're losing) will ever return to dine at Van Der Valk ever again!!! Needless to say, for all of our frustration for time of waiting for our meals and then ever so slowly the sides were served, we DID NOT TIP being the service was less than desireable!!!! I would check this place off your list of restaurants to try!!!! And in our small communities of Hernando and Inverness, word will and does spread fast!

Van Der Valk is a really nice place. Good food and a great martini menu. It has a good bar food menu and Heinekin on tap. My wife and I love it

Whether going for a quick (delicious) burger and beer for lunchtime or an elegant dinner, this is a local jewel. Unlike any other retaurant in this small town, the atmosphere is minimilistic elegance, service is excellent, and the food varies from huge juicy burgers (one is topped with shrimp!) to 4 course meals that rival any large city restaurants. If you are in the area, it is worth stopping. Overlooking a lush golf course, this is inland Central Florida at its best. I am a local and enjoy the ambience and proximity!
