We have eaten at the rest. one time and loved the relaxed atmosphere. The service was really friendly and helpful. We had gator. and clam soup. The helpings were LARGE. We would recommend this rest. to anyone.
One of the best restaurants in the Dunnellon area. typically packed, best to make reservations, food and atmosphere are classic Florida style eats. If you like catfish this is a GREAT place to go. But the restaurant is in an expanded old wood home on the Withlachoochee River, adding up to to some times a crowded feel when busy. But if that is not your style they also have outside eating on decks on the river. I read a review for Stumpknockers once about the food being to "buttery" and the restrooms being a mess. My family have been going here for years and never had these issues, and if you are worried about how your food maybe prepared, specify your likes, and they will fix just about whatever you want they have however you would want it. Over all its a great restaurant and its a little bit off the path but its very well worth a ride out of Ocala, Inverness, Dunnellon and a relative short ride from the Crystal River area. Highly recommended by travelers and locals alike.
We dined here twice 5 years ago. We didn't like the heavy, pancake batter on the fried fish. So, we avoided this place for years. Recently, we went back and the waitress told us they will prepare fish any way we like. So, we ordered it pan-fried. It was delicious!!
After dinner, we used the ladies' restroom. OMG!!! The stench and the awful "mess" in a stall was so disqusting. I nearly puked right there! Tiny bathroom. I tried to open the tiny window but it was painted shut. Family wants to go back, but seriously, I am still feeling so traumatized, I just can't stomach going back.

One time I went to a local restaurant and it was very busy. Excellent food was what attracted everyone. There was a line into the men's room. It was only 1 person capacity. Evidently the gentleman ahead of me deposited an above average amount of fecal matter and used an above average amount of paper which clogged the bowl. Having explosive diarrhea I had no choice but to add to his impressive pile. I feel sorry for the gentlemen who walked in after me. I say this to make a point. If a customer makes a mess and no one notifies the staff, then should this reflect poorly upon the restauraunt?
