As Mexican restaurants go, there is a one I liked better in Lakeland where you get a whole poblemo pepper with the chilli relleneos combination platter. Here, I only got a little green piece of pepper. But it's only Ocala, I don't expect too much.
What really inspired me to write a review, however, was last night. I didn't want to go far for dinner, so this was one of the closest options. They tell me the fahitas were on special, great! And they were ok ... until I got my bill and noticed...
THEY CHARGED ME EXTRA FOR THE SOUR CREAM!
The special doesn't seem so "special" anymore!!!
So I'm gonna drop this place in my personal list of places. I'm sorry that would have just cost them pennies but they're losing my business over it.
And if you want a really good basic marguarita, you can always go north on 36th Avenue maybe a mile to Terry's Place.bar, where I think the marguaritas laste better, and certainly cost less.
After reading the reviews, and needing some Mexican food, my fiance and I decided to try this El Toreo location. We went on a Wednesday afternoon to enjoy the 99 cent margaritas and 1.95 Coronas. How can you beat that! Walking into the place, we were a bit disappointed that there was no bar area to sit in and just socialize, and the decor left much to be desired. I guess if you like beer banners everywhere it's ok....BUT, we ordered the Chorizo Con Queso for an appetizer, and though super cheesy, it was good. For dinner, we ordered the chicken Chimichanga dinners - we actually only wanted one, but I don't think our waitperson understood, and brought us two. The chicken chimis were delicious - crispy on the outside, nice and hot on the inside. I requested a side of jalapenos, which they gladly provided. Overall, I thought it was very good, and the service was excellent. My next visit will be to their other location to see if it's a bit more festive. We recently moved here from New England, and had a few places we loved because of the atmosphere - hoping to find something similar here in the Ocala area!
After reading the posted reviews, I was anticipating a decent meal....what an enormous disappointment. The service was good, but that's about all. The burrito and enchilada were undistinguishable except for size, and filled with "mushy" ground beef. The rice was dry and the beans resembled watery gray gravy topped with something white which I believe was supposed to be cheese. Nothing had any flavor or spice, except perhaps the slice of tomatoe on the plate.

It sounds to me that youâre used to eating Mexican from Taco Bell. It is common for authentic Mexican restaurants to serve the food piled together and the white cheese youâre referring to is called Queso Blanco and that is the correct way it is served
