User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsI admit that I haven't been here in 5 years, but this place has been the standard against all other BBQ joints in the area are measured and all fail to match the quality that Bob Sykes used to produce. I can only say that if it has gone downhill, I have only heard of the commentor before me saying something bad about it!
User Rating: 3 out of 5 starsThe barbecue is about average (not the best barbecue, but not the worst either). The sauce is just okay. This restaurant is pretty busy during the weekday lunch hour, but the cashiers seem to handle orders pretty quickly and the wait time for your food is not too long. Paper towels are provided at each table, and the drinks are self-serve (the cashiers hand you the drink cups when you pay for your food). If you go here for lunch during the week, be sure to go a little early, else you may have to wait a few minutes for an open table. But don't let the size of the lunch crowd fool you. The main reason that workers like to eat here for lunch is because this restaurant is one of the few places in the downtown Bessemer area where you can get lunch food in a relatively short period of time. Most restaurants in downtown Bessemer (fast food or otherwise) have employees that are lazy (excuse me, I mean unmotivated) and slow.
You will not have a problem finding an open table here during dinner time. But then again, you may not feel safe in that area after dark either. At least the employees are friendly.
On a side note, Yahoo should not let restaurant owners write reviews of their own restaurants (please see the previous review).
User Rating: 5 out of 5 starsMMm MMmm Good!!!: Bob Sykes barbeque is delicious, it is fantastic. You will truly love it. The resturant is clean, the people are friendly, like real southeners supposed to be. I could go on and on about the food, you just have to try it for yourself. You love it yourself. Like my title, it is mmm mmm good.
