My fiance and I have given this store several chances and each time we have been extremely disappointed with their quality of food- which they always seem to put on sale!! I purchased steaks on sale there and the sell-by date it had was good, still had a couple of days to go. I got home and the next day went to cook them, the side that you could not see in the plastic packaging was BROWN!!! pure ugly brown!! and it smelled bad. i returned it to the store and the Assistant manager, an older lady, did not seem to care in the least! I was very disturbed because the meat was not out-dated but the quality was horrible. Also, I was newly pregnant and God forbid I ate that meat! More recently, my fiance bought eggs from Milam's, which turned out to be the strangest, most disgusting looking egg we'd ever seen. The yolk from an egg was gell-like and looked half-cooked already. definitely not edible!! So we threw them out and got new eggs from Publix. Then, yesterday, my fiance, who is an avid crab leg eater, bought crab legs on sale (Red flag in itself if you are shopping at Milam's!!!) which smelled odd and had a slimy texture and appearance even after he had cooked it. He actually got sick later and threw up. This is the last time we will ever shop at Milam's and I will be filing several complaints with various departments regarding this lousy excuse for a grocery store. Their quality and safety of food has proven to be less than sufficient. Be careful when you shop here!!! We would never buy food here again.
Milams is a store where the employee moral is very low and some try to help while others don't.The managers treat the employees with great disrespect while they are working for very low wages. The seafood dept where I shopped was poorly run until a person named capt hal worked there.HE always cleaned and wore new gloves while waiting on his clients.HE was always a pleasure to talk to and kept the place clean, and was very knowledgable about the freshness of the seafood products and really knew his trade. HE was friendly and personable a change from some of the others that worked there. I enjoyed talking to him even when i was not buying seafood that day but always ended up buying some seafood from him.Sorry to see that he is not working at the store anymore, will miss his smiling face and quick service even when he was busy.MILAMS needs to kept great employees like him who make a visit to the store a friendly experience. GOOD LUCK CAPT HAL !!! WHERE DID YOU GO? I know someone that would like to hire you with your knowledge in seafood and fishing.
I have noticed since Milam's took over the service has not been as good as it was under Stuart Fine Foods but today was the end!! Our office had called up to order lunch and I went to pick it up. I stood there as employees strolled back and forth ignoring not only me but others waiting to be served. After about 10 minutes a newcomer went to the deli and insisted someone wait on him. A woman did come to help him but then she left the rest of us. About this time, an employee walked by and I asked if I could get some help. He made it clear he was not pleased but would grant me the favor. I gave my name...he grabbed the order...shoved it in a bag and pushed it to me. No napkins, no thank you..just an annoyed look. By this time I was none to pleased and said.."thanks for all your trouble." He came back with a rude comment and as I walked away called "Come back real soon now." being obviously sarcastic. Yes, I was sarcastic when I thanked him but he could have saved the situation; instead he chose to be arrogant. I talked to the manager and his reply was...."it's hard to get good help." No more, no less. I'll be going somewhere else from now on. I've gone to that store for years and that level of unservice and rudeness would not have been tolerated under Stuart Fine Foods. Perhaps Milam's is now trading on SFF's good name but they should remember I can vote by spending my dollars elsewhere and that's exactly what I'm going to do. P.S. The other people waiting on line felt the same way!
