try books beans and candle shop up the street
the food at the golden temple is overpriced and gross though, in my opinion
but a neat store non the less
Compared to other vegetarian restarants I have dinned at in various parts of the country, I would have to say that the food is really not that great tasting and the menu lacks balance or you have to pay a higher price when you have to add soup, salad, and sandwich instead of offering balanced combinations of the aforementioned three items. The waiters or servers do not really serve the customer, but make the customer pick up her/his food at the end of the counter which is fine if they want to go cafeteria style. But when you are finished, they expect you to pick up your dishes and place them in or near a bus box in a place separate form where you picked up the food, and they don't politely ask you to do, in my case, they commanded me to do it-no please or thank you, and told me that I was violating health department rules. But I did not know where to put the dishes (I placed them where I picked them up). I felt that I was treated rudely. When I went to the restaurant register to pay the bill, the employee told me to take my bill to grocery register, and bring her back a hard copy. She was not courteous, did not say please or thank you, and commanded me as if she were my supervisor. I have been and stayed at Hindu institutions before, so I am familiar with some of the philosophy religion or spirituality. But what are they trying to prove? The concept of community and to a certain extent sharing in the labor is fine, but when it is done in a disrespectful, assuming, and rude way, then it serves more the ego and will multiply egocentric responses
Golden Temple shows that community unity and understanding goes a long way. Been here for years, since I was little. And now, I'm proud to have my daughter shop there as well. Organic, natural, hard to find produce, supplements, books books and more books, statues and candles, stones, and even a lunch area of their own. Which, I day I'm gonna get to go to, when they start opening it up later.lol. But the folks are sweet as pie so I dont mind.
