| About: | This popular rib joint originated in Tuscaloosa and became nationally famous before it opened this location in Southside near UAB and Five Points South. Its decor is that of a typical barbecue restaurant, with simple tables and photos of football coaches and players on the walls. There are some side items on the menu, but the reason to eat here is the barbecue pork ribs (USD16.95). Dreamland lives up to its slogan, "Ain't nothin like 'em nowhere." Diners who fall in love with the sauce can purchase some for the road for just USD5.50 a quart. |

We were in town from New Mexico and decided to try some Southern BBQ, the menu is small but the taste is big and so are the batch of ribs, good food and very friendly service, it was a cool little place in a cool little neighborhood.
great service, cool restaurant, average bbq. I've heard raves about the ribs at this place so i ordered a slab and some pulled pork. first thing i noticed is there where young kids working in the kitchen...tells me little experience, then i noticed there is no smoke ring on the ribs? WAIT, the place smells like hickory and pork but the meat doesn't have the tell tale sign of being smoked? call me a stickler but ALL authentic BBQ should have a nice subtle smokey flavor...other than that the ribs where pretty bland with maybe salt and garlic powder as the seasoning and the sauce was decent, a good mix of vinegary and sweet tomato base flavor. it seams like the ribs are basically grilled style, quick until there done with a lot of pull required on the meat to pull from the bone....eh...you be the judge. Maybe the original place is better?
Be sure you're in the mood for ribs and definately get a cup of banana pudding to finish it off!
