About:Located above The Burly Earl Bar near the university of Alabama at Birmingham and its medical center, La Cocina is one of the oldest and best Mexican restaurants in Birmingham. The decor is very simple with tables and booths along a large picture window facing Seventh Avenue, making it a good place to watch the crowd go by. The food is very tasty and comes in large portions. The service is excellent and the atmosphere is easygoing.

    This place is a joke. The food is overpriced and portion sizes small. The chips are usually cold. You have to order like you would at a fast food resturant. Good luck to those who go there.

    The food is fabulous and wonderful service!! I drive all the way from Atlanta, GA for the food, it's so fresh it's addicting! Really family friendly too!

    Just okay: Service was not good; only 1 server for a large section. Very old restaurant that needs updated.
