I found Epiphany Cafe to be over rated and over priced. The food was ok but not worth the price. The atmosphere and the service were good but not excellent.
I'm not in the habit of writing reviews, but since I found Epiphany because of the reviews here, I figured it was only fair to return the favor. We had our new year's eve/ anniversary dinner there last night, and in a nutshell it was the best meal we can ever remember having. Each dish of all three courses was simply superb. Of six dishes my wife and I shared, there wasn't a single one that we didn't both love. Without going into to much specifics, the appetizers were unique, surprising and good enough to be main courses. The main courses were the best-prepared and most tender examples of those dishes we'd ever tried. And the desert was amazing, rich and decadent without being too heavy. The service was thorough and attentive without being overbearing, and was efficient and quick while still allowing us to feel like we could enjoy our meal at a relaxed pace. When my wife wasn't completely satisfied with the wine we had chosen (I liked it) our server brought her out several different samples of wine she might like. He even provided us with directions to the nearest wine shop where we could buy a bottle of her favorite. We ended up buying two. All in all, the whole experience was above and beyond our expectations in every respect. I'm giving Epiphany Cafe 5 stars without reservation, and I'd give 6 if they were available.
Best Restaurant in Tuscaloosa: While there are arguably three or four good fine dining restaurants in Tuscaloosa, Epiphany has no real competition for the top spot. The owner's devotion to offering inventive entrees and appetizers with everchanging regional variatioms that you are unlikely to see on any other menu. With the variety offered, there will occasionally be a so-so dish, but, as a regular for years, 9 out of 10 times, I come away in awe.
The wine selection is excellent and service is always outstanding.
