I've been to the Jazz Factory 3 times in the last few years. The music and ambiance are great. The food is decent but the portions won't leave you feeling anywhere near full. Our table coined an expression 'big taste small portions'. 2/3 times I've dined there, I found some of the wait staff rather cold. I was tempted to speak to management about it, but resisted since they weren't overtly rude, just cold. In the rare event that I should choose to dine there again, I would call ahead and make sure the band was playing, otherwise I would take my money to a place with better food and service.
I was pleasantly surprised when our group of six went to the Jazz Factory. Every one of us felt the food was above average. The atmosphere was pleasant. Service was a little slow, but hey--we were out to enjoy each other's company as well as the food. Portion size was perfect and the price was not out of line. My only surprise is that more people weren't crowding the place.
I visited this establishment this past Saturday night while celebrating my 32nd bday with my husband and parents. We were expecting some real jazz. The band reminded me of a piano bar with a jazz twist. The food met our expections but the portion size of the appetizers and the waiter's lack of attentiveness came up short. There was another band playing upstairs but it was blues, and 70s and 80s music - not jazz at all. The decor was in line with buildings in the downtown area but it needed some renovations done, particularly the tin ceiling. Overall, we were not disappointed but it did not live up to all of the hype. Maybe it was the band so I would give it another chance one day.
