Bahama Bobs Beach Side Cafe

Our last night on vacation in the Gulf Shores, we wanted a really good seafood meal before heading home. We had read some good reviews on Bahama Bob's and my husband suggested we try it.

It was pourig down rain when we left our hotel room, but by the time we reached Bahama Bob's, it was barely sprinkling. The hostess seated us outside, which was fine. The rain guards were down and we wouldn't get wet. The area was well furnished with seaside decor. It wasn't a large place, but was pleasing to the eye. The place seemed clean and the staff was super friendly. As we decided on an appetizer, the waitress had brought our drinks and was off to place the order as we decided on our main order. I noticed the gentlemen behind my husband was smoking. I knew it would only be a quick minute before my husband smelt the smoke. Neither of us smoke, and don't want to breath it in while we eat. I went inside and asked the lead person and waitress if we could move inside. They were so nice and helpful and before you could snap your fingers, they had us inside.

The inside was small, but very cozy. We had ordered, my husband decided on the mahi mahi while I went with the crab legs. Yumm!!

Our coconut shrimp appetizer made it to the table and it was very good. Our salads then showed up. The salad, while simple, were just right. Our meal did take a bit longer than we expected, but worth the wait. My husband really enjoyed his order and felt it was perfectly proportioned. My crab legs were very good. I could have ate another order. The fries were exceptional.

The food, service and atmosphere was very good. We would return here on another trip. Good Job!!!

I gave it 2 stars because of the overall experience, not the food. The food was very good, and the atmosphere is nice, however; our overall experience was disappointing. If you are there early evening (before the sun goes down) please do not accept a table at the far end of the outside patio. The intensity of the setting sun is so hot that you are unable to enjoy your meal due to the heat. The manager is very well aware of this but still allows wait staff to place customers there ($$$). Several tables (3) became available outside in the shaded portion of the patio (which with the breeze and overhead fans is quite pleasant). We requested a move and were told that we could not be moved because the tables were reserved for parties of 6 and they had a wait. We accepted this and continued our meal. While finishing what we could of our meal (it was just so hot you could hardly eat and the drinks were so watered down), a party of four (which was how many were in our party) was seated, then a couple was seated at the tables we had requested to move to. After considering this, we spoke with the manager about what had taken place. She was very apologetic and said she understood our frustration because it gets so... hot out on that end of the patio at that time of day. Yet she made no attempt to make any sort of adjustments etc. I am not one to complain or cause a scene so it has to be really bad to say anything (which was probably part of the problem). Several others were seated at another table in the sun and after just a brief period of time they moved themselves (without asking) and one group got up and said they would wait for a table inside. Lesson learned! Long story short, it is right on the beach so the atmosphere is great! The food is good and I am sure would have been better had the conditions been different. My only advise would be not to sit at the tables on the end of the patio where the sun is setting. The rest of the guests on the patio (in the shade) seem to have been enjoying themselves. I was just not satisfied with the way the situation was handled. I am sure that once we left they continued to place customers at those tables. I just hope they had a better experience than we did.

The best place to dine and relax by yourself or with friends. Great for all ages. Typical Southern, Gulf Coast atmosphere. The staff and owner are absolutely the best. It's great! May it never go away.
