I have shopped at this store many times and have received great service. I also work at a school that is nearby. The owner of the shop is a wonderful person. Every year, she donates school uniforms for the needy children. I don't mean used uniforms either. She goes to WalMart and buys new clothes. I highly respect her and will be a life time shopper of Kids Cottage.
I am absolutely amazed at the reviews on this store. It seems like stores are closing every day and this little comments are basically senseless! These reviews are mainly comments for single incidents - not overall quality of products which I thought was the purpose for review sites. Personal service is an isolated situation! We weren't there for the whole situation to know perhaps how the customer acted. In all fairness, we have all said or done things we may have regretted later.
This store offers a tremendous service with great products! Here you have a hard working small business trying to stay afloat amidst these sort of comments. I personally have known this store owner to work sometimes 70-80 hours a week. To Laura, I think it is wonderful you have the opportunity to send you child to such a wonderful school - but let's be honest - I would have to believe that MOST people would think that the majority of parents who send their children to St. Pauls do not buy second hand clothes nor do they take their clothes to Kids Kottage for resale. Their uniforms/clothes are most likely at the League or at closer resale shop like Kids Wearhouse. Speaking of Kids Wearhouse, now there is a resale shop where the owner and their daughter go every Sat. to yard sales to buy and resell. And guess what, working mom, I didn't know that was a crime. They are giving people what they want for their items at a yard sale and then finding a buyer for them. Isn't that a part of our free trade system? Ms. Laura, I wonder if you ever call Belk and ask them to look for you some khakis in size 10 and get mad if they don't call you back! Personal service over the phone is not what the average customer demands! But it is great IF the store has the time to do that for you. Secondly, I have shopped Kids Kottage for years and been there in gym clothes. The owner is quite casual herself usually dressed in flip flops. It is hard for me to believe you would think you would be judged in a store that is partly second hand, NOT a stuffy boutique and where the owner herself is so casual.
Let's be real - we ALL have had not so perfect experiences on occasions from restaurants to Walmart. BUT do we go online and try to destroy their reputation-especially small businesses- and I never judge a business over one situation, everyone has bad days! (Or at least some of us aren't perfect!) These reviews seem more personal as these people don't have reviews on anyone BUT this store. Weird isn't it? I would also bet that none of these "customers" have personally confronted face to face or talked to the store owner about their experience instead of blasting her online. Something I am sure I would want to know if I were her so I could be aware and address it.
This comment log is just truly amazing! Let's all try to take down a small business in today's demanding economy - a store that helps people eg. childrearing grandparents, pregnant teens, budget minded parents and a place to buy safe products (yes she checks everything for recalls) and basically a recycle business keeping lots of stuff out of the landfill. I believe this store is a blessing overall and helps people with a great service! I don't know if I could do a better job - I surely don't work 70-80 hrs so I don't judge anyone who works that hard! And I do hope that if the store owner reads this, PLEASE know that you are doing a GREAT job and let's just pray for these people who obviously can't face you but would try to do harm behind a computer screen! Bless you!!
Before school had started(Aug 2009) I was calling around, trying to find used uniforms for St. Pauls. I called Kid's K and the girl that answered the phone said she was too busy to check because she had a customer in front of her and said for me to call back in 15 minutes. When I called back she said she was busy and for me to call back. I told her I was 30 minutes away and didn't want to go over there if they didn't have what I was looking for so I asked her if she knew if she had some St. Pauls Jumpers and she said she thought she did. So I made the trek out there and there are 3 women in the store that clearly are working there. They have 2 other customers in there besides me. The girl at the counter just looks at me. Guess I aint wearing the kind of clothes that says I've got money. So I walk to the back and look in the used uniform area and find no sign of what I'm looking for. So I ask a lady that was stocking a rack if she had jumpers and she said they havent had any in years and it's her experience that if you've got money to send your kids to St. Pauls then you've got money to buy new uniforms. How incredibly rude this woman was !! Without even considering her thoughts, she just blurted them out. Well, I was shocked and didn't know what to say so I took my little dress I found and bought it and left and vowed never to return. I'd just like that woman to know that my child only goes to St. Pauls cause her dad passed away and we collect Suvivers Benefits and instead of blowing it on new clothes or other frivolous things, I try to shop savvy so that I can afford to pay for other things that she likes, like dance class. I am appauled at your rudeness and will NEVER shop there again !!!
