Held a baby shower at the Front Porch Cafe in Murfreesboro, TN on Saturday 7/11/09. The food was great but the management is horrible! First of all, there was around 24 guests for the shower and they placed us in a very small room which was hard to get around. On top of that, the shower ending at the 2 hour time period, but because we were in the room cleaning up for about 15 mins after, they tried to charge us an additionally $250 more because they stated we went over the 2 hour time limit. They stated we could come 30 mins prior to the event to setup, but no time after the event to clean up. Not only that, they had scratched out the original fee on the contract from $150 to $250 and argued me down that it was on the contract originally when I signed it. Good thing I had a copy of the contact that I signed with me that showed the correct price being $150. Also, an estimate of 30 people were given when creating the contract 2 months ago, but we confirmed our count of being 24 one week prior to the event and they still charged us for 30 people. I've had to dispute the charge on my credit card, because they will not give us the refund for this. This has been very stressful and I had to point out to the manager that he has not shown any kind of remorse on his behalf, and the first thing he stated was that he gave us the $100 dollars from the $250 they he had charge, which he HAD to give back because $250 was not on the contract. After pointing this out to him, he finally gave us $50 back, which I feel he should have given us the hold $150 back instead.
New Owners!!!!! yuck!!! I had the surprise of my life today at one of the best restaurants in the Boro. I recomended the cafe for a reception. When I arrived, after not being able to visit the cafe for work conflicts in several months, I noticed that the place looked like it was going through a remodel. The walls that had the ornate decoration appeared as though there was kilz slapped up the night before. The servers were running around as if there were no reason. We got to the reserved room for the group of 25 and everyone that was there were looking around and seeing if maybe there was anyone from the waitstaff in sight. There was not !! We sat down in one of the six tables assigned and waited. The owner, Terry, was just as discombobulated as the staff and acted as if he didn't have a clue. I realized quickly that he was not acting. He finally assigned a server to the room well into the experience and she tried to service the room. There were six tables of four people including the Bride and Groom. Drinks were ordered for each table one at a time and brought out in groupings of three, as that is as many as she could hold, without sticking her fingers in the four glasses for delivery. The coffee was older than my grandmother and the fruit tea was warm even though there was ice in the glass. Once we all ordered there was a very long wait to get our institutional or canned food. I remember when the food was fresh and appetizing. It is as if the new owners took the recipes and menu and stomped them to the floor. We were constantly seeing the owner pop his head in to see how we were doing. In my opinion , it seemed as if he was then going back to his office snickering and seeing what other lunitic ideas of poor service he could come up with. Our server was being run ragged and not getting the assistance that any other reasonable manager or owner could do to assist. The entree's came out piecemeal just like the drinks. There was a good amount of time between trips from the kitchen as well. When the manager finally tried to assist the server in bringing food out, He still insisted on the grouping of three. If you have a four top that wants to eat at the cafe, I would suggest asking for separate tables that might be close so as not to tax the server with too many plates. The pricing remains the same but the quality and taste have deterierated drastically. I tell the new owners of the Front Porch, sometimes hiring real managers and staff with you guys as silent partners goes a long way. I am certainly retracting any references for the Front Porch until the two guys get a handle on the place.
The first time I ate here was with a huge party. The service and food, was wonderful! They had us in and out in no time! We were able to eat upstairs, in a large banquet room, so we could all be together. The room was decorated wonderfully-a friendly atmosphere. The service was also wonderful. I don't think my glass was ever empty for longer than a minute. The strawberry lemonade is amazing! The fruit tea is the most popular, but I branched out, and loved it! Since then, I have gotten their hot spice tea. If you haven't tried it, I highly recomend it! Its great for cold days in the winter. You can sit by the fireplace, drinking hot spice tea, enjoying any of the delicious meals on their menu. Its a great way to sit around and be with your friends!!!!

Just to add.... The manager that has given me all these problems is Terry as well.
Also, we never go refills on our drinks. We were also told we would be upstairs for the shower, but instead was placed into a very small room.
