There was weirdness from the get-go. Despite having an 'OPEN' sign, the door was locked. When I went up to the door to peek in, the hostess acknowledged my presence and then scuttled into the kitchen. I didn't realize you had to knock at a restaurant.
We ordered $30 worth of take-out from this establishment, and though it tasted fine, I could have made the stir-fry using a bottle of Kikkoman and a bag of frozen veggies for a lot less. Nothing tasted fresh. The portions were extremely small given the cost, and we had to pay extra for the rice to go with the curry. (Who eats curry plain?)
Great Food, But....: We have eaten at Sawasdee several times and the food is always excellent and at a good value, HOWEVER, the service ALWAYS leaves much to be desired. The last time my family entered the restaurant, when we sat down in the "floor/booth" we were not greeted by a Hello, but instead with a "You know there is madatory 20% gratuity for that table". This was tactless enough, but with the prominently diplayed sign reading the same, it insulted our literacy as well as our sense of class. We had always been AT LEAST that generous in the past, however, since that incident I take my food togo OR make the cross town trip to SWEET BASIL.
YUMMY!!!!: Fresh. Delicious. Big Menu Selection of Thai Food. Authentic. Friendly. Cozy. Great Hot Tea.
