Kimball Chinese Buffet

Hahahaha. WOW! 5 Stars from these reviewers? Are you kidding me? I guess they never ventured out of Kimball, TN in their lives.

We were heading to the Chattanooga aquarium from Nashville and decided to stop somewhere for lunch. We saw the billboard and thought we'd give it a try. As we went in I noticed that they were awarded the Top 100 Chinese Restaurant in the nation and a newspaper clipping said "Chinese Buffet" puts Kimball on the map. My expectations were high but we were disappointed.

I'm Asian so I knew what to look for in good food. I noticed that they were using canned spices and sauces and that was how all the food tasted. Perhaps they thought mostly non-Asian folks were going to eat these food; therefore, no real effort were necessary to make it better than it should. And it is usually the case because hell, out here in the middle of nowhere, non-Asian folks will think everything tastes good because they never tasted Chinese food anywhere else. In most cases, that's how it is. If you never tasted anything better, how could you tell right?

My wife and I looked at each other after we tasted a few items and said it was probably the worst Chinese Buffet we had ever went to. Our kids didn't like any of the dishes, except for the egg drop soup. Money wasted!!!

Since it's the only Chinese place in town what else can you do right? Drive 20 miles to Chattanooga, probably not. Go give it a try yourself.

I was reading reviews about this place before heading out to do some work in the Jasper area. The high ratings made me think it was worth a try, but I seriously thought.... this is the middle of nowhere, this is probably the only chinese food most of these people have ever eaten. Besides, it's right next to a Wal-Mart which is usually a high indicator that the food is just masses of poorly cooked food put out for those special "Walmart customers." But I really gotta say, this was definitely the best buffet I've been to, and very arguably the best chinese food I've eaten period. I know for a fact that those were the best crab rangoon's I've ever had. Everywhere I've ever eaten crab rangoons, it's like a tiny bit of crab and cream cheese in this huge crunchy hard shell. Not here... I've never seen so much stuffing in them, they were about to bust out of the pastry shell. They have a good wide variety of food, I loved their "chicken stick" too... it was seriously a great place to eat. The Times Free Press in Chattanooga put out a story in their "Food" section a couple days later saying that the restaurant rated as one of the top 100 asian restaurants in America. I would believe it, I can really only think of two I've ever been to that are within that same grouping, and one of those is about 600 miles away

amazing food in the middle of nowhere! some foods I have never seen elsewhere...Chinese Lover's cake, for example.
