After visiting Mel's Diner in Pigeon Forge many times over the past few years, I must say today was a little disappointing. I ordered breakfast and most of it was pretty good except for the pancakes which were so cold the margarine would not melt. However the real complaint I have is when a couple came in with their chihauhau. I assumed that since they were carrying it, the dog was not a service animal. The dog and couple stayed and all were well behaved. However I wonder if after petting the dog the waitress washed her hands before serving other customers? I probably won't return again.
Mel's Diner is a must when you are in Pigeon Forge. My family insist on eating at Mel's at least twice everytime we visit Pigeon Forge. The food is great and the service is even better. I have had almost everything on the menu and have never had anything bad. My husband's favorite is their chicken philly sandwich. We live 2 hours away from Pigeon Forge and we have made a day trip down there just to eat at Mel's. I can't understand anyone who wouldn't like it..I guess you can't please everyone. The people who wrote the bad review must have caught them on a bad night, which is still hard to imagine because we have been there all days of the week and have eaten there for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. By the way, their breakfast is great too!
I can not believe that the people that wrote the reviews below ate at the same place. I worked in the restaurant business while in school and i tend to be very understanding and passive when it comes to dining out but this was the absolute worst place I have ever eaten in my entire life. We went on a friday night and i was a little surprised by the lack of cars in the parking lot but i thought no big deal it is kind of an off season in pigeon forge. But oh no! Now i know why it was empty. We walked in and i was initially a little disappointed. With the ads you see in the brochures you expect poodle skirts and someone singing 50's music but there is none of that. The walls are decorated nicely and our waitress was very nice. My husband and i both ordered the hamburger steak. Ugh. It was not even close to real meat. It was seriously some kind of disgusting processed crap. I have worked in small diners in the past and have never seen anything that looked this bad. Our side items were not great either but nothing could top how bad the hamburger steak was. The sweet tea was good but we decided to pass on dessert and went through a fast food drive through since we were still starving after paying 30 bucks for inedible food. Our 2yr old had a hotdog which she would not eat but it did not look bad. Seriously though my recommendation is to pass on this place.
