I completely agree with Grammy Sue. Her mother is my beloved grandmother. I am a NY-trained, double board-certified psychiatrist with more than 15 years experience in the mental health field. As such, I have worked extensively with numerous residential care facilities (in multiple states) as well as with many patients with varying degrees and types of dementia. Wellington Place is, in my opinion, an exceptional facility that does wonderful work. The patients I have seen there appear to be well-attended by the staff. As a professional in the field, as well as being a very concerned daughter and granddaughter living out-of-state, I have been very pleased with the service provided to my grandmother and family there. I can't thank the staff enough for their professionalism and dedication.
I do not know who wrote the previous review. However, I could not disagree more!! Two months ago, I placed my precious Mom in the Alzheimer's unit at Wellington Place, Sevierville. I worried and stressed over my decision to move her from our loving home to a "facility". Being an only child, I thought no one could care for Mom like I could. However, I was WRONG! My Mother's life has greatly improved since she has lived at Wellington Place. She is always clean, neat and well fed. She is in a safe environment and not in danger of wandering away and becoming lost. She constantly tells me how good her food is and how much she likes her apartment. Fortunately, I live approximately one mile from Wellington. This allows me to "drop-in" at least once a day to visit and check on Mom. I am always greeted warmly by the staff and made to feel welcome. I am constantly asked if there is anything else they can do to make my Mom more comfortable. Many times I am in the unit without the staff knowing I am there. That is when I am pleased the most! This allows me to view the staff interaction with my Mom, without them knowing I am observing. I have never seen anything but kind, loving, patient care. It takes special people to deal with an Alzheimer's patient. Fortunately, the Alzheimer's Unit at Wellington is full of those special people! Their loving care has made my Mom's daily life better. Knowing she is happy and secure has made my daily life better. I have not regretted placing her there one time! In fact, had I known how her life would improve, she would have been there months earlier. She is a beautiful, loving Mother who deserves whatever happiness she can have through her last years with Alzheimer's. I truly appreciate the excellent care she is receiving.
Then management at Wellington Place is incompetent. Residents are unsatisfied with the service, and are treated more as an inconvience than people.
The head of nursing often ignores residents medical needs causing simple health issues to become life threatening situations.
The food is barely palatable, and looks unappetizing. A little garnish would go a long way. Attention is not paid to whether residents eat their food, and the meals are not tailored to the individual taste to make sure the residents will eat.
The activities director should come up with activites that the residents will enjoy. Almost all residents complain about the activities director and their quality of life suffers.
