Kanpai's chefs have never been the best but lunch today at the Hamilton location was the worst my family and I have had. The chef and waiter were both extremely slow. Our table was just being served rice when the last people from another table, who were seated after us, left. The chef only tried one trick and it took three times to get it right. But the worst part was the food. The rice was burned, the meat was over cooked and he had a mishap with the vegetables and we only got part of what we should have. I know they have to train new chefs, but there should be a minimum standard achieved before they serve paying customers.

This used to be our favorite place before they started their downward spiral! There had only been "little issues" here & there, but recently they have taken a real turn for the worst. On one occasion, we had an OBVIOUSLY new chef that failed to have any interaction with the guests, let alone put on any performance. Let me also mention the fact that our shrimp got stuck to the grill so bad that they had to be SCRAPED off with a grill cleaning scraper! The next time that we went, we ended up with a chef that thought the girls at the other end of the table were so cute, that he should direct all of his attention to them to the point of him piling their plates & skimping on ours. There were four of us & two of them & the rice on their TWO plates equalled what we had all together on FOUR plates! (And yes, we heard them order & at no time did they request double portions!) Not to mention that the chef acted like we were imposing on his dinner date! Whatever! This was the last straw! We HAPPILY give Makino's our business these days!

Great during dinner-my favorite hibachi place during dinner. But I've been there twice for lunch-it was horrible. First time, was just subpar, but the second time-my salmon was not even cooked enough. Sure, they may need to let their new guys get some experience, but at least make sure they know when food is done before putting them out there. Their poor quality lunches make me give them a 3. Their food should be the same whether it's dinner or lunch.
