My husband took me to the Pier last night, I was having a terrible day and he had been batting zero, so he was going to make it all better and take me somewhere really nice. MY BAD DAY GOT WORSE. I oredered a Filet, I have no idea what they gave me but it had a tendons in it and was about 7 inches in diameter an 1/2 inch thick. Wow what a cow that can have a strap like that. It was tough and had a skewer that I did not have the strength to remove! We left the server a $25 tip because we felt sorry for her because the Pier has really gotten bad. And she could not get the manager to come and talk to us. We called the manager when we got home he screamed at us on the phone like a lil school girl, then told me my steak was so thin because he butterflied it! (Butterflied a filet?)The had no lobster. I told him Walmart has lobster. i've had better steaks at Western Sizzlin'. We will not go back. If you want to eat somewhere nice go to Buckley's on Poplar, the prices are reasonable the staff is premo, the atmosphere is great, the food is spectacular.
took my girlfriend, mother, father, and my daughter (age 2) to the pier and had great service, food, and wine, we all had something different from chicken fingers to steak pasta and seafood not a single complaint, the food was fast, filling and definately worth every penny. the server was one of the best, and great view. I will definately go back again.. Its a definately a must try place or a great place to take that special someone you want to impress.
My husband and I had a terrible meal at the Pier. The food was horrible. The crabcakes tasted like a bad tuna casserole. The salad dressing (Italian vinaigrette) was overwhelming, and I like a lot of flavor. The bread wasn't bad, but wasn't anything special. I ordered a filet and fried shrimp. The filet had a wooden scewer through it to keep the bacon on, but I could not remove it from the steak and had to eat around it (not that I wanted to eat much). The shrimp wasn't the worst I've ever had, but for the price should've been better. The baked potato was fine. I'd describe it as cafeteria quality food. After we had already placed our orders we overheard the table behind us returning their entrees. When the waiter returned with their food he said, "Third times the charm!", so we assume they sent their food back twice.
The decor is nearly all wood, and being a seafood restaurant, is maritime themed. They were playing a strange mix of music, for example: The Pina Colada Song, Bohemian Rhapsody, some Al Green. And the music was just loud enough to be distracting. The staff was very friendly and competent, and they have free valet parking.
This place is a tourist trap and relies on it's river views, and unsuspecting tourists, to stay in business. And if you go after dark, there are no "views" to speak of, but are still seated at your table facing the river. Bottom line: the food was worse than Red Lobster and costs twice as much. We will never go back and I'll warn anyone who's thinking of eating downtown to avoid it.
