| About: | Karen Blockman Carrier has yet another chic creation to boast of now that her third restaurant, The Beauty Shop has opened. True to its name, the decor of the place is reminiscent of a '40s beauty salon. If you are tired of the same old vegan items offered in restaurants, then head here for a pleasant change (the Thai Cobb deserves a special mention). The menu features contemporary global cuisine and is seasonal, non-vegetarian items are on offer too. |

very disappointing: This is the most disappointed I have ever been in a restaurant in my entire life. I planned a fun day to take my daughter who was home from college and my parents. I had heard how cute and fun and good this place was. There were no beers iced in sinks. There were no waitresses in red lipstick, teased hair or curlers. There were 2 male workers in the whole place. There was zero atmosphere except 3 or 4 hair dryers. I was so very disappointed. The service was awful. The food was worse. There were no other people in there! My daughter got the spinach crepe which was a burned tortilla with a spinach leaf inside!. My dad wanted iced tea. He got some in an orange juice sized glass and never got anymore. We were all so disappointed that it put a damper on the whole day. We didn't even talk during lunch because no one wanted to be the first to say this place is absolutely awful! Of all the fun places we could have gone in Memphis! This place needs to close. Don't waste your money or especially your time.
Good Food, Horrible Service: Last night was my first time there. Unfortunately, it will probably be my last. I couldn't really enjoy the food since the service was so poor. I was with a party of girls, and the night started off well, but anytime we asked for anything, like another glass of wine or another beer, our waiter seemed to be completely put out...and the expression on his face told us so. Also, the comments he made to the table (or to me, which a few of the girls heard) were pretty rude, ie refilling water, etc. And I understand that in parties at Beauty Shop, they don't normally split checks. But he agreed to do it. He made an error on 2 checks and when it was pointed out to him, he told us we were wrong and again put out for having to fix it. For a restaurant of this nature, this behavior to me is completely unacceptable. Even if you're having a bad night, you shouldn't openly display for your customers to see. Believe me, I know what it can be like having been a server myself for 6 years.
Watermelon and Wings 4 ME!: This is by far one of the best restaurants I've ever been. Very unique dining...with a special dish called "Watermelon and Wings". It a is fabulous, must visit restaurant when in Memphis or visiting
