| About: | King's Palace Cafe is a great place on Beale in which to have a pre-blues club dinner or a late night bowl of chili. The gumbo has won many local awards, but some people may find it overly spicy. Other Cajun dishes are well done, especially the shrimp and crayfish etouffee, while the barbecue ribs are tender and meaty. Inside the restaurant, bare wood floors contrast with the velvet wall coverings. The brick walls and pressed-tin ceiling make for a fairly high noise level. A back room, separated from the main dining room only by some pillars, features live bands on weekends. Both the crowd and the service are casual. |

I had been to Kings Palace before I moved to Memphis and remembered it as one of the restaurants on Beale where you could get a decent meal.
Unfortunately that has changed!! The service was extremely poor. I ordered an inexpensive bottle of wine and the waiter brought me a more expensive one. I didnt notice this until after the wine was open and poured. They wouldnt do anything about it!
I ordered dinner and my salad never came until my dinner did. The waiter said he was waiting for them to grate the carrots! There were more croutons than anything else and they were stale!
I ordered a medium-well prime rib and it was running off my plate. They tried to prepare another piece but by then who would have an appetite?
The Manager said I would not be charged for the dinner but would have to pay for the wine. Then they overcharged me. I asked them to correct it and supposedly they did. The amount on the credit card slip I signed was correct but when I checked my bank account I was over charged a whopping $59.85 for a $21.00 bottle of wine!!
NEVER GOING BACK THERE AGAIN!!
This was by far my me and my boyfriend's favorite place to eat on Beale Street! Our waiter was very friendly and provided us with awesome service. The food was absolutely amazing! The Mardi Gras Pasta is a must try. If we ever make it back to Memphis we will FOR SURE stop back to the King's Palace.
