I am getting nowhere with trying to have a $150 Strasburg Children's Dupioni Silk dress replaced after Germantown Cleaners dry cleaned the dress and ruined it.
I had the dress dry cleaned back in February after my 3 year old daughter was in her aunt's wedding. I took the dress to Germantown Cleaners on Monday or Tuesday after the wedding to have it professionally dry cleaned. When I picked up the dress I didn't really look it over because I never expected there to be anything wrong with it. Well, my daughter is supposed to wear the same dress again this weekend and when I pulled the dress out of her closet a couple of weeks ago to look it over I noticed that the Dupioni Silk dress was ruined and there was no way that she could wear it. I immediately took it up to the cleaners to have them look at it and see if they would replace it since they were the ones that messed it up during the dry cleaning process. After two days I was told to come up there and check it out because they had tried to clean it again for me. Well, needless to say it, looked just the same as it did when I dropped it off earlier that week. I then spoke with Pat (who I think is the manager) and told her that it was still not right and that I wanted to speak to the owner to see how we could work this out. She did not understand what else I wanted from them therefore I explained to her that I expected the dress to be replaced since they were the ones that ruined it in the first place. She told me that she didn't think that the owner would do that but that she would ask. She then called me back and explained to me that the owner would not replace the dress and that he himself was the one that cleaned it. She told me that they did everything the tag on the dress said to do as far as cleaning it goes. Pease let me remind you that the tag on the dress only said "dry clean only" therefore that was a little odd to tell me that. It also sent up red flags to me about their knowledge of cleaning this type of fabric. She then tried to tell me that it must be a manufacturers defect and that I needed to take the dress back to Strasburg Children and have them look at it and replace it. Well, that is just what I did. I spoke with Susan, the store manager at Strasburg Children in Saddle Creek, and asked her what she thought. She was very upset that Germantown Cleaners would try to blame a mistake they made on her company and was ready to get on the phone and give them a call herself. I told her that I would try to resolve it one last time before she needed to get involved but that I really appreciated her concern in this situation. I then called Pat back and told her everything about meeting the store manager at Strasburg and that I still wanted the dress to be replaced and that I wanted the owner to call me back. I have tried to stay very calm during this whole process however I am pretty upset now because I have been waiting for a week for the owner or even Pat to call me back. I am appalled that Germantown Cleaners would treat a loyal customer such as myself this way and they do not even have the courtesy to call me back and at least let me know what is going on.
I am very upset and wish that Germantown Cleaners would just do the right thing and replace the dress.
