The Ole Lamplighter

Old fashioned and classy: With the excellent Tavern on the Ridge facing troubles this and Legends are your best bet for a good dining experience in Maury County however The Ole Lamplighter is different. The interior is like an old house very cozy and romantic. The food particularly the quail is exceptional. This is a place to take a date the service is quite good and the ambience gives an air of comfort. I recommend it highly for Valentine's Day, anniversaries or special occassions.

Worth a visit...: Located right next to betty's parkway but unlike betty's which is a bar n grill this is a destination type restaurant you will consider worthy of going out of your way for. This is a fancier urban type dining in a resturant that looks like an old supper club. A bit tacky i guess but clean enough and with one of the best views a resturant could have over looking the duck river.

The food is good but it should be for the prices. You can and very likely will pay over $20 for an entree here. The steaks are good but it always bothered me that they advertise that they are hand cut in front of you when they never do that. They bring out whole ribeyes and sirloins to view but never do they cut your steak in front of you when you order it.

The seafood items are good but since this isn't a seafood place per se and because they don't have an ultra high turnover it is not ultra fresh. It's frozen! I come here mainly for the steak but if frozen fried shrimp is your thing go for it..

The ole lamplighter does have menu items you cannot find in columbia like quail. I don't care for them anway, little sparrow sized fried birds. This is not the place for a burger or ham sandwich.

On thing i truly love is the salad bar. While not enormous their salad bar sports items i really enjoy. I love the onion soup and the smoked oysters and anchovies make for a terrific salad and gives you something to nibble on while waiting for your meal. The salad bar alone runs $9.99..

The previous reviewer makes a good point about there being no wait. You can go right in, get seated, get your drinks and start in on the salad bar. Better than waiting for a seat at legends. The service is good but you are never hurried or rushed. They want you to take your time and enjoy yourself so order some wine or a cocktail and do just that.

Best steak dinner in columbia tennessee...

Will always visit: Never a wait. Big city atmosphere in small town. Great selections, inc quail; steaks, and seafood. Great service.0
