I love Oxford and love restaurants on the Square. Had a great meal @ City Grocery a month ago and couldn't wait to go back. The chef just received the James Beard Award so really excited. Went back tonight and was so disappointed! Took about 15 minutes to get a drink order. Salad was not good. One entree was cold. The Salmon entree was dry and had three silver dollor size pieces of salmon for about $30.00. Will not go back.
Disappointed local
Not a review, but a "FYI" - their chef John Currence recently won the Great American Seafood Cookoff in New Orleans August 3 2008 with his Mississippi Redfish Courtboullion (my question: is this ever on the menu here?)
I travel to Oxford on business regularly, and have for the past 10 years. This is the best restaurant I've had the pleasure of visiting. The service is always great. I know every spot can have its bad days. I particularly like the duck dishes, and have never had anything bad. I highly recommend the place.

You went once and loved it and you went once and had a diffult experience...don't give up! You are a local and you have to support your community. Don't wait to tell the restaurant you had a bad evening, make sure they know right then AND NOT IN A REVIEW!
