Probably the best meal experience around Oxford: Yocona River Inn will quite likely be the most memorable meal experience of your visit to Oxford. Located a few miles outside of town on HWY 334 inside an old country store, Yocona offers an ever changing menu of simple, yet tasty fare. It's a local favorite so get there early unless you want to wait. If you do find yourself waiting, you can enjoy a bottle of wine outside. Please keep in mind Yocona does not serve alcohol; they have a b. y. o. b. policy.

I have personally eaten at Yocona River Inn many times. The appetizer salad is a favorite of mine. The ingredients are always fresh and presentation is lovely. The selection of main dishes changes regularly, but there are a couple of mainstays. Another favorite is the filet mignon. I do not care for the sauce, as a good filet mignon needs no sauce at all. There is usually a filet special as well. On my last visit to Yocona, I ordered the vegetable napoleon. It was out of this world. I'm hoping that it becomes a regular feature on the menu as a vegetarian option. It's was one of the best meals I have ever had anywhere.

I have only had bad experiences at Yocona twice over many visits. One dish that I ordered which was not good at all was a type of pasta that had lettuce in it. I can't remember the name of the dish, but it was positively inedible. Perhaps it was an experiment gone wrong. The only other bad experience I had was several years ago. I ordered a crab salad appetizer, and I believe the crab was spoiled. On that particular visit, the chair I was expected to sit in was falling apart. I think that they have since thrown out all of the old chairs and replaced their cold storage. They have also added central air conditioning, which is an absolute must in North Mississippi in the middle of July. I'm not sure what took them so long,

The service is pretty good, but leisurely. The same servers have been working there for a very long time, so they remember your face and are always friendly.

Yocona is hands down the best restaurant in the Oxford area. The atmosphere is perfect for a date or a family gathering. It beats the establishments in town by a long shot. It's quiet, it's friendly, and it's tasty. You won't be disappointed.
