I have dreams of getting to Natchez and having some real barbeque. It has been far too long (and this is from a native Texan).
Anne Vidai sent me a care package of brisket when I first moved up to the Great Northwest and I had to threaten greivous bodily harm to my work group from the field when my secretary signed for the package. They really wanted to open it up, and by the time I got to the office a few folks had passed out from sheer aromatic overload.
The entire archaeological staff of the US Army goes glassy eyed and starts drooling at the mention of the Pig Out Inn, and many cross country trips through the south are re-routed with the express goal of hitting Natchez during dining hours. I know for a fact that tthe Brass at Vicksburg District and the Waterways Experiment Station put in orders whenever any employees pass through.
And, it's a designated stop if they are showing off for guests from outside the region.
I myself am considering accepting a position in Little Rock, adn proximity to the Pig Out Inn figures prominently. Lord, I'm going to salivate into the keyboard
Avoid this dump at all costs. The food is overpriced and just plain nasty. For $9.99 you get 1/2 handful of shredded dried meat, a scoop of potato salad, and a scoop of coleslaw which resembled sink drain rubbish. The coleslaw almost made me regurgitate the little bit of mayonnaise-soaked potato slop I somehow got down. The ladies behind the counter were laughing while I was eating it, so they obviously know how bad it is. To rate this place as the number one place to eat in Natchez is a joke. I would rather a disgusting big mac. One final warning...If you do decide to take your chances and eat here, make sure there is a lavatory nearby. I spend the next 6 hours trying to recover my colon from the vapor trap of the Belk bathroom. Eat at your own risk!!
Great! Good food, served friendly. nice flavor. I had the pulled pork sandwich, my husband had the spicy sausage sandwich. We were both pleased.
