This post office is terrible. You give them a package and even though it may not be fragile, I love how they just throw it on the counter behind them. Total lack of compassion or respect. And because it is government run, they won't get fired.

I had a horrible experience yesterday at the Gulfport office. I went to use my PO box and it was closed. I was told I didn't pay the rent on it. It was due July 31, they locked it on Aug 11th. I don't usually check on it daily. First, I NEVER received the bill in the box. I have had that box for 8 years and always paid twice a year. Anyway, I was told the box was still available and if I wanted to go ahead and pay for the next six months I could. I gave them my charge card and was charged 22.00. The clerk went back to the box where she attempted to unlock it. she told me, that indeed the lock had changed and I would NOW have to pay for another lock. Now I was getting a little angry. How much? another 15.00.
I said, never mind I just couldn't pay out anymore and she proceded to credit my card back the 22.00. She was having a problem, she could only credit 11.00
The manager was called and he looked at me and said, "you do understand don't you? No, I didn't. Apparently, the government -owned post office has a rule that says, if you close your box early, you lose half your deposit. Nice rule isn't it.
Early, was five minutes after I paid for it. I was to the point of crying, which I hate but he didn't care . He just starred at me and said, that is the rule.
First, the lady misspoke when she said that box was available. I paid for it when it wasn't available because the key I had would not work. I would now have to buy another lock. This was not my fault and in this time of money problems, it is just outrageous that they can keep half my money for five minutes of a six month rental. From this point on, I will pay all my bills on line and send my packages with UPS. Customer service ? Something they just don't have to worry with.

this is an up date on my review. As of today, 08/29/09, I realize I was not given a credit at all. So in five minutes of a charge from my debit card to the Post office, and then a credit. Well, it never happened. They have kept my 22.00 and I have no box or anything to show for it. Hows that for the government.
