The captain warned us before we started that it was too windy to sail and we puttered up and down the Mississippi Sound for 2.5 hours. The captain and crew would have stood in the back of the boat talking between themselves and checking their text messages the whole time if a librarian from Seattle had not struck up a conversation with them.

Under her questioning the captain described Katrina, pointing out the continued signs of destruction on the shore. He also described his clean up efforts for the Maritime Museum. He also talked about the barrier islands. So the captain has the background, knowledge and skill to give a fascinating tour of the harbor if he is prompted to do so.

So if you go ask whether they will be sailing or just puttering around the Mississippi Sound. If they aren't sailing don't go. Ask the captain about Katrina, sailing the Mississippi Sound, etc.
