A response to ponysoprano
The dealership did in fact fax the letter mentioned in the review, to the place of business that the original complaint was made from. The complaint was faxed to the dealership so the response was returned in the same way. Fax conformation is available if a review is needed.
The vehicle was left with us, after hours, and the brakes on the truck were totally out. In other words the vehicle had no brakes at all.
The vehicle had been driven to the point that the brake rotors were falling apart. A very dangerous situation. The dealership service tech had to be very carefull driving the vehicle into the shop for inspection.
Not a normal brake repair. When you allow brakes to become as deteriorated as these brakes were, it requires much more labor and parts than normal.
The work performed on the truck was well within expected industry standards and was performed by a trained Mopar Technician.
In refference to the quote that has been referenced against us. It is extremely easy for anyone to quote a brake repair over the phone. Without seeing the condition the vehicle was in, a proper analysis could not be determined and the necessary repairs, that would complete the job responsibly, could not be understood in a phone conversation.
The competitive estimate was from American Brake Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
A dealership representative contacted the manager of American Brake Center before we responded to ponysoprano about her complant.
The manager knew the quote, but when questioned about the serverity of the repair he had little or no knowledge of the requirements necessary to rebuild and repair the brakes for a Heavy Duty Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel truck.
What if the repair would have been perform incorrectly at American Brake Center. The brakes were repaired properly at Perkins Chrysler Dodge Jeep and at a very competitive price.
Brakes are not a repair we can fool around with.
Ponysoprano received a quality job for a very fair price on the Dodge Truck. The rotors were separated, bearings replaced and the rotors were pressed. The manager at American Brake had no idea the rotors must be pressed. The job was completed for $756.42. If you truely know Heavy Duty Trucks and you have had brakes repaired on one, you know just how competitive this repair was.
The dealership appreciates this opportunity to respond to ponysoprano.
If anyone reading this needs more detail on the real and total situation, they can contact the dealership service manager tgronefeld@perkinscdj.com ; the service advisor that assisted ponysaprano rcaswell@perkinscdj.com ; or the managing partner for fixed operations amoser@perkinscdj.com
Stay clear of this dealership for repairs. I have gone there for years, they have always been a bit higher naturally (like all dealers) but this last experience took the cake. My husband approved work for $800, only to find out the market was about $500 at local brake shops. They got us on parts, but labor was double here what was cited on other bids. I wrote a letter to both owners and the general manager, did not receive a response ever, and when we went to pay they had knocked off a mere token $70. It still left them significantly above market. And that was with a discount given in the original $800 supposedly. Pricey, non-responsive and unprofessional. I can tell by the 2006 review, things have not changed here.
Worst Auto dealer and service ive ever encountered: I have had multiple experinces with this dealership and none of them would rank above a root canal. Most of my problems have been around service. When I was out of town my wife used their service department several times and was charged hudreds of dollars for work on several occasions that did not fix the problem. We were out the cost of a rental car and repairs and when I called to speak with a manager all I got was a chuckle. They did offer to look at the car for a fourth time but didnt think there was much else they could do. I took the car across town and the problem was fixed in 30 minutes for a small amount of money. Perkins Eastside made us live with the problem for over a year and spend hundreds of dollars and laughed. Even my escalations to management were met with laughs. Two years latter I called to ask for a small code to change a switch for me (5 minutes work) and was told that even though they advertise service hours until 6 they send the mechanics home at 5 and do not have weekend hours. When I spoke with the service manager he said that if people want their service for an oil change or anything else they will spend the cost of a rental car or take the day off from work. This attitude permiates that business. Manay people will read this review and think I am one angry customer and do business with them anyway. And later they will remember this when they have had similar experiences as my friends and neighbors and I have. you have to ask yourself why they dont have enough business to have any evening or weekend hours.

I just want to update that I did receive a response - it was in my truck when we picked it up with the bill. It was typed the previous day as if someone was supposed to fax it but did not. Just another service issue in my book. The response questioned that the other estimate may not be right and that the other place likely would have charged more if the truck had been taken there. Still left with a bad taste all around.
