My husband and I spent a night at the Talbott Tavern and it was a great experience. We enjoyed the History, we stayed in the Lincoln suite. It was very clean and our service was excellent. The young girl working that afternoon checked back with us before she left for the night asking if we needed anything. We were served a hot breakfast consisting of biscuits, bacon, eggs which was included in the price of our room. Our dinner was great! We had the pork chops and the chicken. We also shared a piece of the Talbott pie. We found out the woman that does the baking had worked there for 30 plus years. Don't miss the pie if you go!!
Enjoyable Meal: The food was good. I had the The Old Kentucky Hot Brown and found my meal enjoyable -- very cheesy. My wife had the Shrimp Kabob and was expecting kabobs. Her meal was served on a bed of excellent wild rice with the shrimp and vegetables served scattered on top. Too many red and green peppers. The atmosphere is quaint, service was prompt (but they forgot to give us silverware when our salads were presented). the wine list had Napa Valley and Chilean Concha Y Tora (one of my favorite wineries and the 1st time I have found them in a restaurant).
The BEST Bang For Your Buck: I have ate at many of the restaurants in Bardstown, but by far The Old Talbott Tavern offers the best food for the money. I had been there a time or two before with family and never had a complaint. Always excellent service, food and atmosphere. It was when I decided to eat there for lunch that I realized that it was great food at a reasonable price!
I had the pot roast with potatoes and vegetables, with chili as a starter. The pot roast was absolutely mouth watering. As someone who is against vegetables and so defiant as a child that I'd rather sit at the table until bedtime than to eat the nasty things, my gosh, I ate all my veggies this day.
My bill, with an iced tea, came to just $12 and some change. With tip, just over $15. That may seem like a lot for one person, and it isn't fast food prices for sure, but it isn't outrageous either. After sitting down at a diner in town and paying more than $12 because they'll nickel and dime you to death, and give you less than quality food, it was confirmed for me that the Old Talbott Tavern is indeed the best bang for the buck.
