It's all about service!!!: Let me preface this by stating that I am a lifelong Danvillian and I knew Freddie personally since I was small. There has been a restaurant at this location since the 1920's. Freddie sold the restaurant to the current owners in the late 1980's due to failing health. John and Denise Baca really brought true Italian fare to danville when they purchased the restaurant. Freddie had true Italian cuisine mixed with American favorites like hamburgers ect. John and Denise axed those items allowing only true Italian fare from that point. I can say that it is some of the best Italian food you will ever eat. Like others I think the portions are small in terms of the prices but nontheless they are very well prepared and presented. I don't know why but this restaurant has always had poor service since the Baca's purchased it. So poor in fact that I did not eat there for three years until this past October. Danville now allows liquor sales by the drink so what better thing than a good bottle of wine and a plate of Lasagna. During my hiatus the dining room had been expanded into ajoining building spaces the kitchen expanded significantly and the menu enhanced as well. A decent wine list with beer and othe liquors is available. Still, the service is horrible, long waits on food, breads and servers that don't know how full to fill a wine glass. At $ 4.50 a glass for a domestic pinot this is unacceptable. I think if they used a real wine glass instead of a water goblet they might develop some consistancy. They do have a great atmosphere and the food is wonderful. When I go to a decent restaurant I feel compelled to tip well, but I cannot bring myself to reinforce poor service.
Nice suprise in Danville: What looks like a little hole in the wall restaurant at first glance actually is a great place to get authentic Italian food at wonderful prices! We've been four times now and while the service is slow and spotty, the food is worth it. The chicken alfredo has a nice chicken breast dredged in seasoning and sliced atop penne pasta with a creamy alfredo that's full of flavor and not thick and heavy as is usually the case. The spaghetti is also flavor-packed with lots of finely crumbled Italian sausage. The house balsalmic vinegrette salad dressing is wonderful - the best I've had. The fresh baked bread has wonderful textures and spices. Two of us ate for about $25 (includes 2 glasses of wine). At that price for that kind of food, I don't mind less than stellar service. Besides, the staff is friendly and well-intentioned.
Once was enough: Tried it, wasn't impressed. It tries to be ritzy but, fails miserably.

I think more people would have eaten there if it hadn't looked so nasty in appearance. The health inspections were poor at times and I have seen mice running from under the main door in the evenings.
