Not sure who "Brad Wesley" is, but the food and service here are both wonderful! I've been eating here for 9 years now, and have never had a bad experience. The food is fresh, the salsa and chips are great, the dishes are terrific! Anyone who wants fresh, authentic Mexican should try this place!
Aside from the relatively low prices and monstrous portions, I don't understand the widespread enthusiasm for El Rio Grande.
After four or five visits, I have concluded that it is just more unexciting, warmed-over, soggy Tex-Mex that is unfortunately typical of Cincinnati Tex-Mex chains. Almost nothing on the menu tastes very fresh. Even the salsa tastes like it comes from a jar.
The food falls well short of a three-star rating. It is only a notch or two better than the wretched Margaritas.
On the plus side, the atmosphere is convivial; the restaurant has a dimly-lit, inviting, tavern-like feel; and the service is decent enough. Except for the fact that there is confusion among the staff as to whether the restaurant takes reservations--as 6 or 7 of us found out the hard way one evening--this would be a good place for a larger group to get together for a festive night out without breaking the bank.
The overall three-star rating is two-and-a-half stars rounded up. El Rio Grande is a pretty mediocre Tex-Mex experience, although not what I'd call "poor."
Best Mexican for the price around. Anytime we have a big group we go there. The prices are reasonable and they can work in bigger group fairly quick.
