I can't comment on the state of the kitchen and was only able to go to Patti's once. In late July 2009, we spent a good part of the day there and walked around the grounds (a little overplanted for my taste) and they have extensive gardens and shaded walkways.
We checked out all the shops and did some early Christmas shopping, we thought the prices were quite reasonable.
Played a round of miniature golf with some very interesting holes. Decided not to climb the rock wall (too old and too fat).
We had made reservations, since I had been told how busy they are on weekends in particular, and went to the Host(ess) station about 15 minutes before our reservation to let them know we were there. Everyone was just as friendly and helpful as they could be. We were called and seated at our table about 5 minutes before our reservation. For appetizers I had Michael's Shrimp; a blend of cheeses and chives, hickory smoked bacon, sun-dried tomatoes and fresh mushrooms - Delicious! We also had the sampler appetizer which has fried cheese, chicken strips, loaded homemade potatoe chips (Homemade chips smothered with chili, bacon, cheeses, diced tomatoes, green onions and red peppers. Served with sour cream.) and fried dill pickles. It was enough for two or three people to make a meal in itself so we ended up putting over half of that in a take home box. For the main course I had the famous 2-inch (thick) pork chop and my wife ordered another Patti's specialty the catfish. My pork chop was unequivically the best Pork chop I have ever eaten in a restaurant, juicy, cooked and seasoned just right. The flower-pot bread was great. Portions are huge! I am a big eater, but in an effort to save some room to try a desert both my wife and I ended up putting at least half of our meals in take home boxes.
For desert we had their Boatsinkers, My wife had the Bill's Boatsinker (chocolate) and I had the Chess Boatsinker (caramel). They were both very good but were not as good as the meal was. The price was quite reasonable for the quantity and apparent quality of our food. To comment on prices without seeing the quantity and quality of the food would be inappropriate in my opinion.
I can only speak of our experience. Everyone of the staff that we interacted with was friendly, cheerful and very helpful. The atmosphere is old-time country, the shops had something for everyone. We didn't go into the petting zoo. We had a wonderful time and hope to be able to go back again in the future.

I have to take this with a grain of salt. I do know that the state inspects restaurant kitchens regularly and have seen them shutdown several. If it was so bad, why would you work there for 4 years and when you left, why didn't you report your findings to the state?
