    We recently had a party of 35 for a holiday event and my husband and I were really looking forward to having the fried oysters as we usually order steak. The oysters, unfortunately, though plentiful, (about a dozen) were on average only one inch in size and the coating they used was like eating little tiny rocks. You could not taste any oyster at all, only the hard rock coating. At 18.00 per plate, you would expect maybe 1/2 dozen of select lightly breaded oysters. Quality, not quantity is what counts. Normally, the salads are very fresh and crisp (though not very large for the price), but this night the lettuce was limp and tough. Other times that I have eaten at Whalers, I have never had a complaint, but this holiday venture left a bad taste as far as the food was concerned. I will say that even though we had a large party, the service was terrific and I wish I could remember the young man's name. I will not let this one bad occasion keep me from trying Whaler's again though.
