User Rating: 2 out of 5 starsA buddy and I drove over to Old Hickory from Evansville. We had been hearing great things about it and we like to checkout bbq places where ever we go. First of all, the meat was very good quality. I had the pork ribs. The ribs were cooked well and you received a large amount with your order. I didnât care for the BBQ sauce at all. It was a vinegar based bbq, which I am more of a sweet, tangy sauce fan. As for the sides, they were average; I had potato salad and cold slaw. Nothing Special in the quality or taste.
The only thing that will keep me from ever going back to that place was the service. I will say it was the first time I had been there, so it could have been a one time thing. But the service was AWEFUL at best. We sat down and waited around 10 minutes for the waitress. She finally came and took our drink and food order at the same time. She came back about 10 minutes later with the food, no drinks. We had to wait another 10 minutes or so just to get the drinks. Than she was gone for at least 20 minutes and never got a refill on my empty drink until she brought one out to us as she gave us our checks.
If you like vinegar based BBQ, you will like it. I would recommend carryout! (Which they do offer a very popular carry out selection)-

THERE'S ONLY ONE THING TO SAY IF YOU WANT (GREAT FOOD) OLD HICKORY IS THE PLACE TO GO, I SIMPLY LOVE THE FOOD , NO MATTER WHAT YOU ORDER IT'S DELICIOUS.

I ate there today and it was definitely not like that at all. I suggest you go back and give it another shot! :) Best BBQ of anywhere.
I've worked in Owensboro for almost 30 years and have been to Old Hickory BarBQ countless times. NEVER have I gotten poor service or anything less than the best barbecue in Kentucky...and no, I don't own the place or know anyone who works there. Just want to share the love of one great 'Q'!!!
I am from Owensboro, but have been away for 34 years. I will not eat BBQ anywhere else except Ol Hickory. We stock up on it and bring it back to Maryland with us. So, I'm sure you are mistaken about the service and the food. I received a fresh shipment from home from Ol Hickory over Christmas and it was wonderful. I just had a bowl of Burgoo and that was wonderful as usual. You my friend are surely mistaken about our wonderful Ol Hickory. Teri Newcom Pasadena, MD
