As a 46 yr old native of Hodgenville and family friend of the Laha's, I, Milissa, have eaten my share of Laha's burgers and downed many ice cold 6 oz. Coca-Colas. Some of my fondest childhood memories involve that quaint, little corner diner. I visited there after school on days I didn't go straight home (and back then that was common). Roland would rise from the old recliner he kept in the small diner and start the burger while Marie was busy getting the cheese ready and serving you that ice-cold Coke in that 6 oz. bottle. She used to give me and her niece (my best friend, Donna) a napkin to hold the cold bottle. Lincoln Days was the BEST! Everyone had Laha's on that day in spite of the long line. Then there were the weekends when Donna and I walked "to town" and shopped in the dime store and visit the local store owners. Yes, it was "Mayberry-ish" and that's what made it special. The corner diner with it's vinyl covered round stools, narrow counter, darkened greasy grill, the plastic letter menu, squeeze mustard & ketchup bottles, the black & white TV mounted in the corner, the old pull handle refrigerator, the local hardware store calendar hanging on the wall and much more, was a part of many Hodgenville residents' childhood memories. Little did I realize my time spent there just watching TV with the owners (Roland would never turn it to cartoons by the way) would be a part of my heritage that I cherished the most. The burgers were great and still are today, thanks to the son of Roland & Marie, Kelly and his wife and one of my oldest friends, Anita, but most of all I think it was the security of knowing friends were there to welcome you. It was great to have lunch, a snack or a cold drink with your best friend at that small counter in the corner of the square, Laha's Red Castle. Then pick up a sack of candy from the dime store and on to "Granny" Laha's (first generation of Laha's to run Red Castle) house to play and spend the night. Oh yes, the simple things in life ARE the best! Thank you Kelly and Anita for keeping the nostalgic little corner diner open for all of us who enjoy the memories, make new ones with our children and especially those cheese burgers!!

What an experience. This place will take you back for sure. If you are eating burgers, be sure to get at least 2. The meat is patted out fresh and is delicious! I will stop there anytime I am in the area for sure!

A experience to remember: Ever since I was a kid in LaRue county Laha's has been a place that everyone visits. The food is simple and tastee - and the small town personality of the corner store is unique.
