Small Town Greasy Spoon: As a Columbus transplant, this place reminded me of Nancy's on High Street north of Campus. The Sunbury Grill is open from early morning until about 2 or 3 in the afternoon. They serve breakfast all day and offer up two daily specials that are written in chalk on a board behind the counter.
The diners are mostly made up of locals that stop in and order without the benefit of a menu, though the staff will bring you one if you request it. Options range from standard breastfast options to just about anything that can be cooked on the grill. My husband and I opted for burgers. He had fries, I had onion rings and a side salad. We both also ordered ice tea (fresh brewed, unsweet only.)
The burgers were fantastic, among the best I've had in the area. The onion rings were so-so, but my husband claimed the fries were excellent. The salad was impressive, good size with real lettuce and a hearty serving of cheese, tomato and dressing on the side for about $1.50.
Our bill came to just under $15 which seemed a bit pricey for lunch in a diner, but we rarely order drinks other than water and we both agreed that we had more than our fill of food. The next time I'd opt for just a sandwich and salad and bypass the 'rings.
Great atmosphere in a grill that looks like any of dozens in movies filmed in the 50's and 60's. Certainly worth a stop.
